More Skills Needed for the Switch to Solar Energy

The solar industry is depending on improved and extended job skills training. The technology is there, the professionals are not. And the world needs them.

CONTEXT

In 2050, 50-70% of our energy is projected to come from solar energy. Many governments have focused on attracting manufacturing jobs, which in the past 10 years have become largely automated due to the increasing efficiency of autonomous manufacturing lines.

Between 70-80% of jobs are in the services value chain, yet most countries do not have the institutions to train the generation of solar engineers, installers & service technicians, solar developers and systems integrators.

The solar conversion struggles with finding qualified staff with the necessary skills. The transformation from fossil to renewable technology depends on this matter. To reach the projected goals, we have to build capacity for installation and maintenance.” Jodie Roussell, Executive Director, Power to Transform.
